To the Dark Side...and beyond!

This past weekend I went and helped out at the Tax Day Circuit Race for ICE. That was motivating! Those bikers are so smooth! I'd kill (well not really) to be that good on a bike! Actually, I'd just settle for being able to do that Hoot Owl climb ONCE and not fall over dead afterwards! I'm gonna work on that! But big girls can't - and shouldn't - climb mountains.

I have my first tri on May 26th. That's just a little over a month away! I'm hearing "stories" about the swim... how cold it will be, that there will be blood sucking leeches, etc. You know... the swim NEVER scares me. I'm NEVER bothered by cold... or by waves... or by anything else. I LOVE that portion of the tri. But this time people have me psyched out... so I bought my first ever tri wetsuit and I plan to wear it! WHAT HAVE I DONE... I'VE GONE TO THE DARK SIDE! I figure with H20 temps in the low 60s... and blood sucking leeches along the shore.... I'll put up with the discomfort! But I'll be damned if I'm wearing it many more times! I actually got a great deal on it. I had ordered a 2XU sleeveless from EXTREME PERFORMANCE but they didn't end up having my size... so the owner called and apologized about a thousand times and gave me the Orca PFlex for the same price! That's about 90 bucks difference, too! I'll always buy from EXTREME PERFORMANCE now... what great customer service. Their website is http://www.gearandtraining.com/index.asp Check 'em out.

My other big purchase happened today. After MUCH deliberation and internal debate, I bought a new tri bike. I was actually pondering a new carbon roadbike, but Karen the rad cyclist told me I should get a tri bike and keep my reliable Cannondale for crits and training (I just love that bike!). So today I ventured down to BARRIES SKI AND SPORTS and ordered a Specialized Transition Expert. Again, the forces were at work for me because I had planned on getting the Elite model for $1400... but nowhere on the planet, it seems, is that bike available in a 58cm... and neither is the next model up, the Comp. So.. Barrie threw down a deal to sell me the Expert (MSRP $2500) for waaaaaaaaaay less. He's so good to me and Brent on deals! BUY AT BARRIES!!!! http://www.barriessports.com/ Great Customer Service!!! The bike will be in tomorrow and then I'll give 'em a few days to put it all together. It's UGLY GOLD but perhaps it'll make me go fast! The picture is up top.

It's raining so there will be no bikin' today. The running will be on the treadmill... boring... but if it clears I'll head out for a 4mi jaunt.

Totals so far for 2007:

Swim: 9000 yds (this month only)
Bike: 116.2 miles (this month only)
Run: 234.04 miles

TIME TO CRANK IT UP!!!!
I'm out.
Smitty
