I took an Ass't Professor job at Idaho State University! I'm very excited about the future. I think I'm really going to enjoy the change. I'll be teaching Sport Science... so that will be waaaaay cool! I cannot believe I'm actually going to get to teach something that I consider so much fun!
I'm gonna miss my broadcasting kids at Highland... they're amazing! But at the same time I'm not going to miss the bureaucratic BS of high school teaching. You know... I didn't think much of the high school scene in the 1980s and it hasn't changed much. The caddiness is still there - even at the professional level. Plus, it's like "Ground Hog Day". Ever think about that? Everything is dictated by the bells... which ring at the same time every day. The same thing happens at the same time... kids walk in the same way... in the same order... and sit in the same place (regardless of whether or not there is a seating chart, which in my class there is not). But I will miss the personalities... of some! I certainly won't miss teaching English... and (dare I say) I won't miss the complaining parents ("My kid would never deserve that grade!").
Over the weekend Brent and I ran a 5K here in Pocatello. I didn't know this community actually sponsored a few fun runs, but apparently if you look hard enough you can find 'em. This one had 155 runners... just a 5K but there is a 10K coming up next month. They do one run a month...in a series. I held the 5K in about 7:40 mile pace so I was happy with that, although I didn't feel my best. Even though I'm improving, I'm still on the slow side... but for my size I guess that's pretty good time.
OH! Brent and I also have really big news! We're building our MAIN cabin this summer in Island Park! Yooo whooo! Too many hoops to jump through for the guest cabin we were gonna build so we're just biting the bullet and doing it right the first time! I'm stoked! We met with the builder last week. He's gonna start building in late June... and it'll take 90 days! Wow! And yes... it's LOG so it'll be beautiful!
Other big news! I won the Kole-McGuffey Prize at ISU. It's quite an amazing cash prize ($10,000) for my work on researching and promoting educational efforts driven at adolescent concussion in sports. Cool. But I have to wear a skirt tomorrow night for the awards banquet... so I gotta go now to go shopping. No. I don't have one. Those of you who know me well already know that. Oh Well. It's worth it for 10,000 bucks. Now if Pocatello just had somewhere I could buy a skirt! Not much of a shopping community, you know!
I'm outta here.
Only 15 more ground hog days to go.

We have to catch up soon. I didn't know you won that major award on top of the Teacher of the Year award. You are pretty much the coolest mom on the planet. I'm sure you checked out Stu's blog and saw that he is a national champ. Its been a pretty good year for us! You getting a new job, several awards, medical school, and a national championship...what next?
