10K and Stuff

Well... Today I ran my first 10K race. It was part of the Pocatello Marathon. My original plans called for running the half marathon, but last night's football game IN Great Falls, Montana kinda made me change my plans. We won, by the way... 14 to 3. Go Rams. Back to the run. Vicki and I have been preparing for the race all summer. I was disappointed in not running the half marathon, but since I've never done a 10K before either, I was still pretty excited to do it. Running just ISN'T my thing... so it wasn't hard to adapt my goals. I'm dedicated to the run all fall and winter though... It'll help me in the tris next summer, for sure!

Going in to the race, I had hoped for two things that were within my control. First, I wanted to run the whole way without stopping. Second, I wanted to break one hour... which shouldn't be hard if I take care of #1, right? I also had the pipe dream of getting on the podium... which really I couldn't control because that depended on how the other ladies did.

Well... I got all three! I ran the whole way in 52:47.... averaging 8:29 per mile, says Spondoro. Vicki made hers in 8:23 per mile and finished in just over 52! Vicki won her age group with the time, and I placed third! So... a good day! It was a tremendous boost to the confidence... not so much the trophy but much more so the time. I have come pretty far this past year and I'm satisfied with where I'm at... but still I want to do better. Next year I want to improve my time... and maybe (hopefully) upgrade to completing the half marathon.

School's in full session. I'm still not so sure I like it... but I'll perservere. I'm excited about my broadcasting classes... I have some great students in there and I think they'll give me a good year! Not teaching 2 English classes will be a stress reliever, too. One's enough.. especially considering how large the class is (32).

That's about it. Margarita?

I'm out.
