Well.. I found out last week that Teresa, the gal from Newtek, nominated me for a national teaching award and that I got it. It's an award that recognizes innovative use of technology in education - and my Broadcasting program was chosen. We're not the best program like this BY FAR.. but we've been able to do quite a bit in only one year of existence so I guess it's pretty cool. Now, ordinarily, this award would be a great thing. I really appreciated that someone thought so highly of me that she would consider me worthy, but I can't say I'm too ecstatic about winning the darn thing. There's two reasons... the biggest of which is that I really don't teach - I "facilitate". The students are the central focus.. always..and things should remain that way. The second is because I know with the award will come unbelievable resentment from certain colleagues (that shall remain nameless!). People are intimidated by others.. so I would just as soon the whole thing would be kept quiet. THE Magazine will be profiling me in their December issue - with the 14 other teachers chosen. My kids are up top.... They're awesome and I love 'em all! We're broadcasting the Homecoming football game next week! That'll be FUN! Boys soccer, too... that's coming up this Thursday!
I'm still not so sure I'm cut out to be a high school teacher. Fine time to figure that out. I really like the kids and my Broadcasting classes... but I sure don't like the politics. You know... they never teach you how to play those bureaucratic games when you're in college! Oh well... I just need to keep things in perspective!
I have another race this Saturday. This time I checked the weather forecast BEFORE signing up! It's the High Desert Classic. A duathlon - 5K run; 30K bike; 5K run. Should be pretty fun. My goal is to ACTUALLY FINISH THIS ONE and to place in the top three in my age group. My back has been really sore lately so I just hope I'm feeling good on race day.
Time for heat and stim...then bed. I'm out.
