Pocatello 10K and a MONUMENTAL Decision

Quickly. I ran the Pocatello Marathon 10K today. My second time. 56:30 was my time. 2nd in my age group. Felt GREAT for the first 4 miles... first mile I went out in 7:19... second mile was about a 7:30.. third mile a 7:45... fourth mile at 8:10...then my foot reaaaaaalllly started hurtin'! I had to do the walk/run thing for the last two miles. That sucked. I was on pace to hover around that elusive 50 minute barrier.. but BAM. The neuroma strikes again. And once it started hurtin it really got in my head. Oh Well. I'm gonna have Urfer help me fix the issue... and I'm going by ISG on Monday to order some bigger shoes! Damn. It's gotta be that artificial hormone that's making my feet grow so damn much the past few years! I'll be up to a 12 mens! Whoa.

Blacktail Tri next Saturday. Oh that hill scares me!!!!!

Okay. Now the MONUMENTAL DECISION part. On Thursday I registered for Ironman 70.3 in Orlando. It's May 20, 2008... and I'M GONNA DO IT. I have to admit, GeekGirl is really motivating me. I don't even know the chic, but her conquering Ironman LouAville (as she writes) really put that cattle prod in my ass. I also know I need something to keep me going over the winter. That's it!!! Not doing the athletic training anymore for the Rams is really taking a toll on my emotional wellbeing. I'm tired of crying myself through every afternoon and evening that I'm home - and not with my Rammies - and I really don't think I should be watching Oprah as much as I have been. No lie. I've been watching Oprah. Now how's that for damaging my reputation!!!

Anyway.. back to Ironman. Kris W and Karen A are gonna coach me. Their first directive was for me to get a PowerTap. So Sam is ordering one in for me. I'm stoked. I know that my run was much stronger last year over longer distances (I'm faster on shorter distances now tho) and I attribute that to how much more biking I did last year. While I'm faster on the bike now, my cardio level isn't where it was this time last year, so I need to hit the trainer hard this winter. PowerTap - once I figure out how to use it and interpret it - will definitely help. Kris is gonna help me with workouts and Karen's gonna dub some videos for me, too. I've done a few bricks this week (bike to run) so I'm gonna do more of that, too. Plus I'm gonna do some sprint work to enhance my pure speed! Hahaha. Speed. hahahahahahha. I'm gonna start doing longer runs, too. I get bored on the run. So I need to alter my courses. I'm gonna try to find a good course around ISU that's about a 10 miler. I need to do that once a week or once every other week.

By the way. Brent did awesome on the 10K today. He beat me. Ugh. Hahaha.. no it makes me proud to say that. He's doing great!

And THE CABIN IS GETTING STARTED... I'll believe it though when I see pictures of trees gone and concrete footings in the ground!
